You couldn't do better than to read, A Doctor at Calvary: The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ As Described by a Surgeon, by Pierre Barbet, a French doctor and battlefield surgeon during the Great War.
It is not for the squeamish! It goes into great detail about the anatomical and physical sufferings Our Lord endured during His Passion culminating in His Crucifixion.
Based on his experience as a battlefield surgeon and his extensive research, he said of the Shroud of Turin, "If this is the work of a forger, then the forger would have to have been a trained anatomist, for there is not one single blunder. Indeed, anatomy bears witness to its authenticity." Amongst other things, he points out that 99.9% of crucifixes are anatomically incorrect, based on his research.
I first read it some 40 years ago, shortly after becoming a Catholic and I just purchased a new copy in order to reread it this week. I encourage you to do the same.
