May it Please Your Majesty,
On the occasion of your 96th Birthday, I should like to take this opportunity of wishing you many happy returns of the day and to congratulate you on your Platinum Jubilee.
I was born in the US to an English mother. When I was a young boy, probably eight or nine, I ‘swore allegiance’ to you in the privacy of my room. Hand on the Bible, I swore to bear you true faith and allegiance. Many years later, in Canada, I took an oath of allegiance to you when I joined the Royal Canadian Legion. Upon discovering that that oath was not in the statutory form, I went before a Commissioner of Oaths and, on 19 October 2007, one of the proudest days of my life, I swore that ‘I, Jovan Weismiller, do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors according to law, forever. So help me God’.
In over 60 years, I have never wavered in that loyalty. I pray every day that God will grant you many more years to reign over us. May God save Your Majesty and may He bless your Realms.
