Happy Boxing Day!

Besides being the Second Day of Christmas and the Feast of St Stephen, today is also Boxing Day. What, my American readers may ask, is Boxing Day? According to the OED, it is the first week-day after Christmas-day, observed as a holiday on which post-men, errand-boys, and servants of various kinds expect to receive a Christmas-box.

When I was a boy, my Hampshire born Mum always left a jar of jam, fruit, pickles or some such goodie in the mailbox for the postman.

And, if you live in the Old Commonwealth, it is a legal, statutory, or bank holiday mostly devoted to shopping. So, to all my readers in CANZUK, don't spend too much money on the Boxing Day sales!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
