Happy 160th Birthday, Kansas!

As I say in my siglines on fora, 'Kansan by birth, Albertan by choice, Jayhawk by the Grace of God'! For those who don't know, a Jayhawk is a fan of my alma mater, the University of Kansas.

Today is the 160th anniversary of the day Kansas was admitted to the Union, an event that many considered to have triggered the War of the Northern Invasion. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KANSAS!

The Great Seal of the State of Kansas

The Kansas Creed
We believe in Kansas, in the glory of her prairies, in the richness of her soil, in the beauty of her skies, and in the healthfulness of her climate
We believe in the Kansas people, in their sturdy faith, and abounding enthusiasm; in their patriotism and their fidelity to the good things of civilization; in their respect for law and their love of justice; in their courage and zeal; in their independence and in their devotion to uplifting influences in education and religion.
We believe in Kansas institutions; in the Kansas language and in the Kansas ideals in her cleanliness of society, and in her demands that honor, sobriety and respect be maintained in public and private life; in her marvellous productiveness and in her wonderful future.

  1. Listening to Home on the Range was a nostalgia moment. Do kids even know that song any more? Probably not. Somebody needs to do a rap version. LOL! BTW I love your Knight on the black horse. I may borrow that photo for my blog. Enjoy the birthday cake today! (Hope you're having one.)

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
