The Peonies Have Bloomed!

A day or two after Memorial Day the peonies finally bloomed. As the Cuter & Shorter Half pointed out, prior to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968, which took effect 1 January 1971, they would have bloomed in time for the holiday, which was traditionally kept on 30 May.

I had gotten so used to three day weekends, I'd forgotten the traditional date. So, until the last three years of her life (she died in December 1973), Grandma would have had some extra time for her 'pineys' to bloom. She would have been happy this year if the old date was still in effect. Not only did the peonies bloom, but there are poppies and iris still in bloom for decorating.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
