El Cid: Champion of Spain - A Documentary Podcast

Real Crusades History #184. And don't forget the Real Crusades History website!

Continuing with my discussion of the eleventh century and the rise of Latin Christendom, I take a look at El Cid, one of the great heroes of eleventh century Spain. El Cid went from being a knight in the household of King Alfonso VI of Leon, to serving as a mercenary of the Muslim ruler of Zaragoza, to conquering Valencia, one of the great old cities of al-Andalus, and becoming a prince in his own right. In this podcast, I'll delve into this truly fascinating figure in Iberian history. A great piece on El Cid from history.net: http://www.historynet.com/the-genius-...

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
