Sacramental vs Non-Sacramental Europe

My friend, Roger Buck, author of The Gentle Traditionalist: A Catholic Fairy-tale from Ireland and Cor Jesu Sacratissimum: From Secularism and the New Age to Christendom Renewed,  posted this rapes statistics graphic, showing rapes per 100,000 population in the countries of Europe, on FishEaters Forum, asking for comments.

It garnered a number of comments, all focussing on the Muslim invasion of Europe. The commenters had completely missed the point. Mr Buck was comparing those portions of Europe that have remained Catholic (or Orthodox), at least in culture, since the Protestant Deformation, and those that have not.

He came back in the thread to post this comment,
I am struck by how much of the response here has to do with Islam!
Friends, as someone who has lived in Europe for nearly the last 40 years, I can say this is hardly about Islam.
Little time now to argue this. But will quickly point out France has by far the highest percentage Muslim population in Europe but is FAR less than places like England.
Also look at the massive difference on the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
I LIVE on that border and I never see Muslims here. But note the difference between north and south!
No this is far more about the Sacraments in Catholic and Orthodox countries ...
To clarify his point, the Muslim population of Northern Ireland is just over one half of one percent. The Muslim population of Éire is 1.3 %, Rapes per 100,000 in Northern Ireland are 51.05. In the Republic the statistic is 13.52. In other words, Northern Ireland with approximately half as many Muslims, has four times as many rapes per 100,000 as does the Republic.

If you have read his books, you will know that Mr Buck believes strongly in the power of the Sacraments to uplift culture and society. I think he makes a good case for his belief here.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
