The West's War on Christianity & Its Unintended Consequences

From Totus Catholica

For more than a century, the most powerful governments in the West set out to remove Christianity from public life. It keeps failing. In France, adult baptisms are breaking records. In Britain, church attendance is climbing among the young. In America, the long decline has levelled off. The ratchet turned out not to be a ratchet. The pattern is as old as Exodus 1;12: the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread. Pharaoh prefigures every power that tries to stamp out the people of God. The bush burns but is not consumed. Tertullian watched Roman executions multiply believers and told the authorities plainly in 197 AD: the blood of Christians is seed. Augustine gave the reason in one sentence: you have made us for yourself and our heart is restless until it rests in you. You can ban the institutions of faith but you cannot legislate away the restlessness that produced them. Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
