Canute Lavard was the only legitimate son of King Eric I of Denmark, but he was killed by his cousin, Magnus the Strong outside the small village, Haraldsted in 1131 and never made it to be king himself. On the spot where he was killed, a spring broke out, and as miracles happened there a chapel was built in 1145. Later, when Canute's son, Valdemar I The Great, became king of Denmark, he made sure his father was canonised as a saint. Lavard, by the way, means "Breadgiver" and is the same as the English word Lord.
