Cromwell: The Persecution of Irish Catholics

The genocide failed. It took modernism to finally destroy the Church in Ireland.

The 17th century in Ireland marked a period of intense suffering for the Catholic population, largely driven by the rise of Puritan ideology and the arrival of Oliver Cromwell. This dark chapter in Irish history saw the Catholic majority subjected to violent repression, which not only reshaped Ireland's political and social landscape but also deeply scarred the Irish identity for generations. Cromwell’s campaign in Ireland went beyond military conquest; it was a systematic effort to eradicate Catholicism, alter the landownership structure, and suppress Irish culture. This short film examines the religious, political, and social aspects of the Cromwellian persecutions, their human cost, and the lasting legacy they left on Irish history.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
