Porsche Edits Jesus Statue Back in Ad After Being Removed

I'll never be able to afford a 911, but after this, I wouldn't buy one even if I could!

From the Washington Examiner

Germany-based automaker Porsche released a new version of an ad that returned a statue of Jesus Christ that was removed in the first version of the commercial following outcry on social media.

The original version had the Cristo Rei statue, located in Lisbon, Portugal, edited out. In the new version of the ad, released on Sunday, the statue can be spotted around the 44-second mark.

"In an early version of a film created in Europe, the Cristo Rei Statue does not appear," Porsche told the Washington Examiner. "We are truly sorry and can fully understand the hurt this has caused. This film has been removed."

The missing statue was first spotted on Saturday by a user on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

The ad was for Porsche's 911 S/T and to mark the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911.

The statue of Cristo Rei is 90 feet tall and sits upon a pedestal that is 270 feet tall. Built in 1959, the statue portrays Jesus with his arms held wide and overlooking the city of Lisbon, Portugal, according to GoLisbon.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
