What in the WHAT, Bishop Callahan?!?!

Fr Altman remains suspended, but 'Msgr GRIDR', a/k/a Jeffrey Burrill, a known, practising homosexual is made administrator of a Parish.

‘Monsignor GRIDR’ Gets New Parish, Fr. Altman Remains Sidelined

June 12, 2022 from Complicit Clergy by Staff

Last July, Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, General Secretary of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the highest-ranking non-bishop Church official in the country, was forced to resign his position because he was routinely using apps like GRINDR that connect men who want to have sex with other men. Burrill, now often times referred to as ‘Monsignor GRIDR,’ is incarnated in the diocese of La Crosse under the authority of Bishop William Callahan.”

OK, let’s set aside the fact that Fr. Altman had been sidelined for a second. Regardless, this is beyond egregious. In one short year after being caught extensively using GRINDR for hookups, all is good??? And it’s not like this anyone ever denied it. Bishop Callahan kind of admits to it below. For the sake of argument, let’s say he has reformed his life (and I hope he has), Msgr. Burrill has still lost all moral authority. If you were ever going to assign a priest to do the nursing home duties or hospital duty, THIS would be the guy.

But, yes, Bishop Callahan did sideline Fr. Altman, but that was merely for his tone. His tone! Guess what? At least he didn’t get busted in “GRINDR-Gate”. His restriction is non-penal and non-judicial, meaning he simply has no assignment. Oh, and this is a good opportunity to once again plug the Coalition for Canceled Priests, since most of them are sidelined the same way by their bishops – with no moral, legal or canonical leg to stand on. (And, oh yeah, go to their upcoming conference and donate to them!) The idea that you’d re-instate Msgr. Burrill and not these guys is BIZARRE. “Hey, St. Teresa’s! You could have had someone who adhered to teachings of the Church and lived the chaste life, but instead you’re gonna get the guy who traveled all over using GRINDR for homosexual hook-ups.” Msgr. Burrill literally helped another person, scrap that, many, to commit a mortal sin. We can forgive, but it would be stupid of anyone to forget.

Yesterday Bishop Callahan announced he has assigned Monsignor Burrill to be administrator of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish in West Salem.

This is so incredibly outrageous, and since it came to me in jpeg form, One Mad Dad typed out the letter by hand for me so I could interject.

11 June 2022

Dear Brothers in Christ,

I write today to share with you that I have appointed Msgr. Jeffrey Burrill Administrator of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish in West Salem. I made the following announcement at the start of Mass earlier today at the parish. This will be shared with parishioners attending tomorrow’s Masses and I share it with you now, and ask for your prayers of support for Msgr. Burrill and the parishioners of St. Teresa of Kolkata.”

OK, I realize not everyone knows about Msgr. Burrill, but it was national news, so any parishioner who got this announcement dropped on them and has read about it probably fell right off the pew. To catch up, go here: https://www.pillarcatholic.com/p/pillar-investigates-usccb-gen-sec

It is my pleasure to be with you here in this great parish of St. Teresa of Kolkata. I am here with Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill who today begins his service as Administrator of the parish.

Monsignor Burrill has served as a priest of his home Diocese of La Crosse since 1998.

He returns to us after having most recently served the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C.

Blah, blah, blah.

Monsignor Burrill has recently come off an extended leave from active ministry. During his leave from active ministry, Monsignor Burrill engaged in a sincere and prayerful effort to strengthen his priestly vows and has favorably responded to every request made by me and by the Diocese.

Um, don’t you think the parishioners should be told why he had to take an extended leave? Leave implies it was his choice. Did his leave include a stay at St. Luke’s, where many of the canceled priests were forced to go?

Look, again, I hope he has repented, but the fact he made such a catastrophic error in judgment and in action should preclude him from parish ministry for quite a while, if ever. You’d think Bishop Callahan would have been a little more wise on this.  Hey, if the parish needed a priest, I know of quite a few just waiting to be assigned somewhere, priests who have no canonical, legal, or moral problems. How about one of them, even if you don’t care for their tone, Bishop Callahan?

Let me state unequivocally that the Diocese of La Crosse has received no allegation of illegal misconduct of any kind by Monsignor Burrill and that I have evert confidence in returning Monsignor Burrill to active ministry and in his ability to accompany the people of God of this great parish as together you journey toward a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the Person of Jesus Christ.

So stinking what?! It wasn’t illegal so there’s no problem with homosexual hook-ups?!?!?!?! There was a whole lot of sexual misconduct, but it was just consensual. And? One has to ask why a bishop with just one year to go before retirement would do this. Does he just not care for the parishioners or even Msgr. Burrill himself? Or does someone know where the proverbial bodies are buried and told him to do this? That’s just how insane this is. Honestly, this smacks of the McCarrick cover-up club.

I thank you for your patience, your prayers, and for your welcoming support of Monsignor Burrill, and for allowing me to be present with you as together we prepare to celebrate the sacrifice of Holy Mass.

Please know of my prayers for you, as well as my deep gratitude for your priestly ministry on behalf of our local Church and the people of God we are blessed to serve.

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary and Jesus, I am,

+William Patrick Callahan

I’m just going to guess there are more than a few parishioners who aren’t happy. It hit the wire last night and here we are hearing about it already. I’m pretty sure Bishop Callahan didn’t contact Complicit Clergy.

In his letter, Bishop Callahan states:

‘Let me state unequivocally that the Diocese of La Crosse has received no allegations of illegal misconduct of any kind by Monsignor Burrill and that I have every confidence in returning Monsignor Burrill to active ministry and in his ability to accompany the people of God of this great parish as together you journey toward a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the Person of Jesus Christ.’

Got that? Callahan tries to reassure parishioners that there’s no need to worry that Monsignor Burrill was routinely cruising on homosexual hook-up apps because it wasn’t illegal!

That’s true, but that doesn’t mean it is right. It’s still a BIG problem.

Meanwhile, Fr. James Altman, also of the diocese of La Crosse, remains on the sidelines awaiting his fate simply because he had the courage to speak the truth. There can be no more clear and present example illustrating the fact that the homosexual hierarchy is still in-charge of the Catholic Church in America.

Well, it’s either that or a whole lot of clueless bishops. Either way, it’s a tragedy for the faithful.

TAKE ACTION: Contact Bishop Callahan at 608-788-7700 or at dbrannon@diolc.org and let him know how you feel.

I second the recommendation that you contact Bishop Callahan. You have a right and duty to make your concerns known.
