14 Feb AD 842, The Oaths of Strasbourg
On this day, in the year 842, brothers, Ludwig II "the German", King of the Franks in the East, and Charles "the Bald", King of the Franks in the West, swear the Oaths of Strasbourg, which pledges of allegiance and cooperation between the rulers of East and West Francia.
