Community Thanksgiving Dinner

I went to our community Thanksgiving dinner this evening. It is a charity fund raiser for the town, with a free will offering, the funds being used if someone has an emergency vital expense they have difficulty meeting. The women of our Parish participate in the preparation, and our Pastor offered the blessing. After the blessing, he started the Lord's Prayer. Of course, all the prots segued into the doxology after the Catholics said amen. As Father greeted me, I said, 'Well, we know who the protestants are now, don't we?'

It was a major all-American feast! Turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing and gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes (plain or fancy with nuts. I partook of the plain.) and cranberry sauce. There was a separate salad table with about 25 different salads, both savoury and sweet. Every form of jello salad imaginable, and savoury salads out the ying-yang. I had a broccoli, cauliflower and pea salad, a rainbow pasta salad, a corn salad, and another I don't remember. For dessert, I picked a piece of pumpkin pie, but there were also other pies, cakes, cookies, etc. Coffee, iced tea, or lemonade were the drinks on offer.

The school children were helping older people carry their trays, with drinks, picking up trays and used plates, etc. They were quite efficient at clearing plates away and refilling drinks. One little lass, about 10 years old, was in her element, directing the boys in what to do!

Anyway, it was a great time, and we're doing it again on a smaller scale tomorrow night at the regular Monday evening community supper. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the food tomorrow, isn't left over from tonight.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
