Pope Leo XIV is urging vigilance, not alarm, over artificial intelligence. Some tech experts believe AI agents may be showing signs of sentience or self-awareness, an idea rejected by the vast majority of mainstream computer scientists and cognitive researchers. Oz Sultan, CEO of the Sultan Interactive Group, joins to discuss why the AI industry is spending so much time and money trying to win over the Catholic Church and other religious groups, why the Catholic Church is of special interest to them, and how a declaration of AI sentience could impact the industry. He also discusses Pope Leo XIV's recent encyclical, which refutes much of what the tech industry is seeking.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
