These are the shocking stories of the ROYAL NAZIS connected to the British royal family, from Prince Philip’s Nazi sisters, to the questions of was Edward VIII a Nazi, was Wallis Simpson a Nazi and who was Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and another grandson of Queen Victoria?
In this British royal history documentary from History Calling we look at the British royal family’s connections to the Nazis through some of their distant and sometimes not so distant relatives and at what happened to the royal Nazis when World War 2 ended.
Who were the royal Nazis though? We’ll start with Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, later known as Duke Carl Eduard or Karl-Eduard. He who was the son of Prince Leopold of the United Kingdom and Princess Helen of Waldeck. He was a British royal who fought for Germany in World War 1 and was stripped of his royal titles by George V, classed as a royal traitor and exiled from his homeland. Later he joined the Nazi party and was ultimately arrested and charged with crimes against humanity. Watch the video to learn his fate.
Then there’s the shockingly pro-Nazi sentiments of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor who visited with Hitler in the 1930s after the former Edward VIII’s abdication. We’ll also look at the then Prince Edward’s actions in 1933 when he encouraged his young nieces, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Duchess of York and future Queen Mother, to make Nazi salutes in the gardens at Balmoral Castle on camera. Then I’ll reveal the stories of King Charles’ Nazi aunts on his father’s side, who were the Nazi sisters-in-law of Elizabeth II and were called Princess Margarita of Greece and Denmark (married Gottfried, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg); Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark (married Gerthold, Margrave of Baden); Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark (married George Donatus, Hereditary Grand Duke of Hesse – she was also Prince Philip’s favourite sister and died with her husband and most of her children in a tragic plan crash) and Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark, who married Prince Christophe of Hesse and Prince George William of Hanover.
Were the Nazi royals banned from royal life forever though for their association with the greatest evil in human history, or were they integrated back into the fold? The answer might shock you.
