The Rosary Mistake Almost Every Catholic Makes (And the 4-Second Fix)

If you have ever wondered how to pray the rosary without your mind wandering, meet the monk who solved it first. In 1409, a 25-year-old named Dominic of Prussia walked into the strictest monastery in the Latin Church, in Trier, and admitted he could not get through the Hail Marys. His mind would not stay. Six hundred years later, you have had the exact same problem in the middle of your own day. Most Catholics treat the rosary as a prayer you say. The Church teaches it is a prayer you say to see, and what happened next in that monastery is why the rosary you hold today has mysteries in it at all. This goes back further than the beads. Israel's prayer book was the 150 psalms, murmured morning and evening until they wore a groove in the heart, and God commanded his people to bind his words on their hand and write them on their doorposts. When monks could not read those psalms, they were given a knotted cord of 150 Hail Marys instead, and for three centuries that was the whole thing, just counting. Dominic of Prussia is the reason it became more. His prior in Trier told him to attach a phrase from the life of Christ to every bead, a fix later praised by two popes and still the fastest way back to real prayer when your mind wanders.
