Massimo Pigliucci - Philosophy of Transhumanism & Artificial Intelligence

From a secular source.

Massimo Pigliucci examines the distinctions between artificial intelligence and consciousness, raising concerns about the potential hubris and ethical implications of transhumanism. The conversation explores whether biological architectures are necessary for achieving true general intelligence.

Humanity’s future is now framed by artificial intelligence (AI) and increasing interventions in the human body to cure and to enhance, i.e., transhumanism. Considering the stakes, and the dangers, a philosophical perspective is imperative. Massimo Pigliucci is an American philosopher and biologist who is professor of philosophy at the City College of New York, former co-host of the Rationally Speaking Podcast, and former editor in chief for the online magazine Scientia Salon.
