Catholic folk piety is a generic term for religious beliefs and customs that exist outside of the "officially" sanctioned doctrines and rituals of the Church. While Catholic folk piety is often dumped on, I believe it plays a valuable role in keeping the Faith alive across different cultures, especially in societies not as "sophisticated" as in the West.
