Blessed Iakym (Senkivsky), Basilian Protohegumen and Martyr of Drohobych, where he was boiled to death by the Reds. His Feast is 29 June.
Blessed Iakym (Senkivsky) was born 2 May 1896 at Haji Velyki, Ternopil District, Ukraine, Russian Empire. He studied theology at Lviv and was ordained on 4 December 1921. He obtained his Doctorate in Theology from Innsbruck, Austria. He was a novice in the Basilian Order of Saint Josaphat at Krekhiv in 1923. First assigned to the village of Krasnopushcha, and then Lavriv. He then held various positions at the Saint Onufry monastery at Lviv from 1931 to 1938. He was made Prior of the monastery at Drohobych in 1939. Arrested for his faith on 26 June 1941 by Communist authorities, he was boiled to death three days later in a cauldron. He was beatified in June 2001 by Pope John Paul II.
