MM Video: Austria-Hungary at War

The Imperial Royal military of Austria-Hungary has become fashionable to downplay, however, they were in fact a potent force; one of the largest in the world, and given the array of disadvantages they faced their accomplishments should be considered remarkable. On land they performed well in numerous campaigns, particularly on the Italian front, and at sea the small Austrian submarine force actually had a higher ratio of kills vs torpedoes fired than even the Germans. Their artillery was superb and, with help from their allies played a large part in the victories on the eastern and Balkan fronts and produced a number of extremely able commanders. Count Conrad von Hoetzendorf was considered the best strategist in Europe at the time of the war. Others such as Baron Straussenburg, Archduke Joseph who was very popular with the Hungarians, Marshal Krobatin, Captain von Trapp Austria's top u-boat ace and the Serbian Orthodox Croat Marshal Boroevic who was the first Slav to be made a field marshal. Other junior officer also went on to great success in succeeding conflicts.
