Some Ukrainian History From 3 Minute History

Having lived in an area with a large Ukrainian diaspora for a number of years and having a dear friend who escaped the Holodomor, the Stalinist Genocide of the Ukrainian people, i have an abiding interest in Ukrainian history.

Edmonton, where I lived, is the site of the world's first monument in honour of the victims of the Holodomor The world's largest kubasa (Ukrainian sausage), pierogi, and pysanki (Ukrainian Easter egg), large roadside attractions,  are in the towns of Mundare, Glendon, and Vegreville respectively, all within an easy drive of Edmonton. Mundare also has the Basilian Father's Museum, chronicling the history of Ukrainian settlement in the area.

So, here is some history of the Стара країна (Old Country) about one of the countless times when Ukraine was a battleground.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
