Bishop Athanasius Schneider explores Blessed Karl of Austria’s devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, his love for the Holy Eucharist, and the faith that sustained him through family life, imperial responsibility, suffering, and exile.
Describing Karl as an “emperor of the Sacred Heart” and a “Eucharistic emperor,” Bishop Schneider recounts his First Friday devotions, Holy Hours, daily prayers, and efforts to teach his children reverence for Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
His marriage to Empress Zita had a clear spiritual purpose: helping one another reach Heaven. When worldly security disappeared, Karl continued to entrust his family and people to the Heart of Jesus.
This lecture invites us to follow his example through prayer, Eucharistic adoration, fidelity to our responsibilities, and confidence in Divine Providence.
