AI and the Catholic Moment with Dr RJ Snell

From St Gregory the Great

Everyone is talking about AI and its implications for the future of work and productivity. But fewer people are discussing what AI reveals about how humanity itself is understood. AI supposes a reductive view of intelligence and a reductive, physicalist understanding of the human. As it turns out, the Catholic tradition is well-positioned to supply a better vision of the human being and can be a better source of hope. Dr R. J. Snell is Director of the Center on the University and Intellectual Life at the Witherspoon Institute. Before his appointment at the Center, he was for many years Professor of Philosophy at Eastern University and the Templeton Honors College. His research interests include the liberal arts, ethics, natural law theory, Thomas Aquinas, the Catholic intellectual tradition, and the work of Bernard Lonergan, SJ. This talk was recorded at St. Gregory the Great Church in Hamilton Square, NJ on April 21, 2026.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
