The musings and meandering thoughts of a crotchety old man as he observes life in the world and in a small, rural town in South East Nebraska. I hope to help people get to Heaven by sharing prayers, meditations, the lives of the Saints, and news of Church happenings. My Pledge: Nulla dies sine linea ~ Not a day without a line.

The Medieval Outlaw Tent That Needs No Tools, Blocks All Rain, and Vanishes Without a Trace
Discover the ingenious engineering behind a historic, tool-free shelter designed to vanish into the landscape. This exploration uncovers the methods used by medieval outlaws and forest dwellers to create invisible, durable homes from nothing but natural woodland materials. Learn the principles of building a bender tent that remains highly effective for survival in the wilderness today.
By the twelfth century, nearly a third of England's territory was designated royal forest. Hunting a deer in those woods could get you blinded. Cutting a branch could cost you a hand. And simply being found living among the trees without authorisation made you a criminal under Norman Forest Law.
Tens of thousands of people lived there anyway. Outlaws, charcoal burners, poachers, and fugitives built a shelter specifically designed for a world where getting caught meant losing your hands or your life. It needed no tools that could be confiscated. It used no materials that could not be found within fifty paces. It went up in thirty minutes, came down in five, and after a season of rain and leaf fall, the site looked like untouched forest floor. No foundation. No post holes. No nails. No archaeological signature whatsoever.
