Mr Hall finishes his series examining "Groyperism", with a discussion of how, intellectually, they mirror the Zionism they despise.
From Crisis
By Kennedy Hall
The so-called "America First" vision of the Groyper movement is really just a "photo negative" of the Zionist movement they openly despise.
This will be the last installment of my thoughts on the Groyper movement, for now, at least. Here, I wish to focus on two characteristics that are clearly visible at the heart of the Groyper movement.
Before I continue, if you are a Groyper and this is your first time reading my thoughts on the matter, please understand that my intention is to offer constructive criticism and not to belittle the reasons why one identifies with the movement. As I said in earlier pieces, I am in agreement with much of the general stream of thought that animates Groyper thinking. However, there are elements that are too toxic and vile for me to accept and to explain away.
There is a famous Nick Fuentes quote, which he has doubled down on many times, and it goes like this: “No, it **** isn’t at all [complicated]. Jews are running society, women need to shut the **** up, Blacks need to be imprisoned for the most part, and we would live in paradise, it’s that simple.”
Well, isn’t Fuentes witty! It is very stunning and brave to repackage the wisdom of Archie Bunker with expletives.
Now, you won’t catch me downplaying the influence of anti-Catholic Jewish thought throughout the centuries—nor will you find the popes of history downplaying it, either. And I will be the last person to advocate for feminism. And I understand the racial element is contentious in America, and there is a real problem with crime in Black American communities.
However, this conception of what leads to a veritable paradise is utterly naturalist. By “naturalist,” I do not mean materialist or atheistic. Instead, what I mean is that the way to a paradisal society in the mind of Fuentes—and Groypers writ large—is to produce a society wherein happiness, success, and, ultimately, peace, is found by natural means. Quite frankly, Fuentes’ idea of what would make a paradisal society is similar to the Zionist view.
Fuentes wants to rid America of Jewish influence, whereas Zionism wants to increase it. Zionists want to incarcerate—or ethnically cleanse—a minority group that they find problematic, and Fuentes wants to do that to Blacks. The animating principles shared by both groups seeking a natural, worldly paradise are essentially photo negatives of each other.
Have you ever noticed how Zionism relies heavily on an appeal to your lower and irascible appetites in order to convince you? Think about it: When a person questions Zionism publicly, how do its proponents react? They belittle you; they shout at you; they attempt to make you feel bad for not being sensitive enough to the plight of Jews; and they do their darndest to get you to fear Muslims, Palestinians, etc., in the hopes that your fear will lead to an emotional and irrational acceptance of their ideals.
In essence, Zionists want you to feel really bad for the Jews and hate everyone who doesn’t give them what they want. Isn’t Groyperism the same? How many more times do we have to hear from Groypers, and Zoomers in general, that the poor 25-year-old men are the hardest-done-by men in the history of the universe? “Oh, you don’t understand. It is so hard to be a young man today because the world is against us!”
Spare me. There isn’t a man alive in the history of the human race who hasn’t had to struggle. Do Groypers think they are uniquely persecuted? Do they think the world is uniquely against them? Many do think this. And they think that the reason their lives are so hard is that all the bad people are out to get them, and it isn’t fair! They think like Zionists.
Zionism is an ideology of hatred and elitism. It is Pharisaical. The Zionist believes that his people are so special that they should have a home just for them and those who are like them. And they should have said home because God wills it. Therefore, anyone who stands in the way is an enemy not only of His people but of the will of God. What does this lead to? Well, it leads to an acceptance of abhorrent and evil behavior that is justifiable because the enemies of Zionism are the enemies of God. The enemies of God must not be tolerated, and they can therefore be destroyed.
Now, there is a truth in this because, as Catholics, we believe that the enemies of God should be exposed, defeated, etc. But the major difference between the Jewish-Zionist mentality and the Catholic mentality is that our Savior tells us that His Kingdom is not of this world. This does not mean that nations should not recognize Christ as King—far from it; instead, what it means is that every nation should be under the sweet yoke of Christ. That Christ’s kingdom is other worldly or supra worldly means that it should transcend spaces and places and cover all things. As St. Paul and St. Pius X said, all things should be restored in Christ.
For this reason, Catholicism is a religion of transformation and conversion, which is different than post-Incarnation Judaism, which is a religion for the few, and those few are chosen more than the others. Zionism reflects this elitism and, ultimately, naturalism. Jews today necessarily reject Christ, and they reject how Christ is our Savior.
Modern Jews expect a natural Messiah, which is to say a political leader who will be a literal king-like figure who will restore Israel and rule the world as the greatest man alive. He will organize the world to be a peaceful place for Jews, and maybe other people, too. There will be prosperity, progress, and a Golden Age. Of course, to do this, the Jewish version of the Messiah will have to be the Antichrist, which will mean a suppression of Christianity and an exaltation of the power of the State of Israel as the highest nation in the world.
This mentality is fundamentally flawed, for obvious reasons, and it is echoed in the sentiment that Fuentes espouses.
Yes, I know that Fuentes talks a lot about Catholicism, and many people would attribute their conversions to him. God be praised for the good that he does. However, God also pulls good out of evil. Many people also converted because of the Covid lockdowns, so they must be good, right?
The Zionist call to Israeli supremacy is matched by the America First call to American supremacy. It is not Israel that should be the head of nations, it is America! America should be first, but why?
Why should America be first? And which Americans should be part of the America that should be first? And how does one become American enough to be good enough to be first with the other true Americans? Furthermore, what virtues does America have that should make it first?
Well, after the first portion of the quote listed above, Fuentes gives us the rest of the context: “White men need to run the household, they need to run the country…”
Ah, I see. America, if it is to be first, must be white. Therefore, it is White America that contains the virtues needed to be the first in the world. Of course, this means that those who are not first should be last. Which would mean that non-whites should be last, or maybe I am not understanding the plain meaning of Fuentian logic…
I am reminded of something Christ said, which I believe is completely opposite to Fuentes: “And many that are first, shall be last: and the last shall be first” (Matthew 19:30).
A good America, according to Groyperism, is an America where the good whites are in charge and the bad non-whites are not in charge. It is a place where those who think like Groypers have the real truth, and those who don’t think like them are silenced so that Groyperism can lead the way! Groypers are special, you see, because they aren’t Jews; and they aren’t women—or, if they are, they think women should shut up; and they aren’t black—or, if they are, they are black in a way that fits into an ideal wherein whiteness carries moral virtue and goodness that exceeds others. Essentially, Groypers are above other men, women, and races because Groypers are the best.
Intellectually, they are identical to Zionists.
With the Zionist and the Pharisee, the Groyper can say, “O God, I give thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men” (Luke 18:11).
The real battle for the soul of America—and the soul of any nation for that matter—does not take place in the political arena or on the Internet. No, the battle for the soul of any nation takes place in the souls of men.
Yes, there are enemies of America, and there are bad philosophies and movements, but none of that matters when the battle of the interior is lost. Groypers hate all the evil forces of the world with a righteous hatred, and Fuentes will tell you about how awful the Jews, the women, the blacks, and whoever else are until he is blue in the face. And he will tell you that if we just fix all those problems, we will live in paradise. But he is wrong. Utterly wrong.
Not one single Groyper will ever live in paradise until he stops sinning. Not one single nation will ever be first until it puts itself in the last place with a poverty of spirit that conforms to Christ. Not one single political movement will ever produce lasting peace and prosperity until it lowers itself to the place of a servant. All the triumphalism and anger present in the Groyper movement will ultimately lead to its destruction and devolution into a movement as disordered as the souls of its greatest proponents.
It is a movement that, like Zionism, appeals to naturalism and stirs up hatred in the souls of its followers.
If Groypers really want to “save America,” they should turn off the Internet for a lengthy period of time and realize that the sins they commit are as vile and awful as the sins of those they hate. In fact, they are, in a sense, worse than those they hate—because they exalt themselves over others yet are just as bestial and vile. It is sin mixed with hypocrisy.
“Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you go round about the sea and the land to make one proselyte; and when he is made, you make him the child of hell twofold more than yourselves” (Matthew 23:15).
