During the historic state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the Vatican, several groundbreaking events took place. The King and queen prayed with Pope Leo XIV in the Sistine Chapel, marking the first time a British sovereign has worshipped with a pope since the 13th century. For the first time, there was an exchange of honours: King Charles received the Order of Pope Pius IX (Knight Grand Cross with collar), and Queen Camilla was made a Dame Grand Cross, while Pope Leo was made an honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath—never before given to a pope. Additionally, King Charles was installed as a “Royal Confrater” of the Benedictine community at St Paul’s Basilica, reviving a medieval tradition. These events symbolise a significant step forward in ecumenical relations between the Church of England and the Catholic Church, linking past traditions with present cooperation.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
