The Windsor Uniform ~ a British Royal Tradition

This video discusses the Windsor uniform, a traditional form of dress worn by male members of the British royal family and courtiers at Windsor Castle. This distinctive dark blue tailcoat with scarlet red facings was first introduced during the reign of King George III around 1777. Initially a hunting suit, it became the king's daily wear and was adopted by his sons and other prominent court members. The uniform evolved over time, with both dress and plain versions being used for formal and everyday occasions, respectively. Although George IV abandoned it as daily wear, the uniform continued to be worn for social engagements at Windsor. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Windsor uniform adapted to modern male dress codes, retaining its distinctive features. The document highlights the uniform's historical significance and continued use in adding a splash of colour to state events at Windsor Castle.
