The Reconquista is a significant event in the history of Christianity. It occurred when the united kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula were finally able to repel the jihadist invaders. The result was not only the victory of the Christians but also the gradual unification of the disunited kingdoms of Leon, Castile, Asturias, Navarre, and Aragon into one powerful state — Spain.
To achieve this, however, it took almost 700 years and hundreds of thousands of casualties among soldiers on the battlefields and civilians of the Iberian Peninsula. Kings of the then still small but proud kingdoms made their contribution to the fight against Muslims of various caliphates and dynasties.
