We Don’t Want To Live in a Europe Built on “Good” Lies

The "good" lies are the standard line of the Left: green myths, gender insanity, that the jihad (oops! I meant "migrants") is a good thing, etc, ad nauseam.

In Brussels, the leaders of the European Union crow about how they are defending “European values” and upholding the “rule of law”. Meanwhile, across the EU and in the UK, people let down by the authorities are feeling forced to take the law and the defence of what they hold dear into their own hands. As we have been reporting, citizens are patrolling their national borders or protesting against the mass dumping of illegal migrants into their communities.

At the time of the June 2024 elections to the EU parliament, I wrote on europeanconservative.com about the emergence of two Europes: 

There is the one centred on the elitist citadels of Brussels, Luxembourg City, or Frankfurt, where EU commissioners, judges, and central bankers issue their rules and edicts. And then there is the real one, where millions of Europeans have to deal with the consequences for their way of life.

A year later, that division between the powerful Official Europe of the elites and the ignored Other Europe where people live and work is clearer than ever. 

Or we might say now it’s the division between the Europe built on lies and political fantasies, where the establishment imagines the world as it wants it to be, and the Europe of hard truths, where normal people are faced with the reality of disastrous policies such as mass migration and Net Zero.

The widening gap between life in the Official Europe and Other Europe explains why there is an ongoing populist revolt against the political elites. And why those elites are sheltering behind their castle walls, clinging together in a desperate bid to hang on to power and keep the people outside the gates. 

If you want to see a physical illustration of the difference between the Europe of lies and that of hard truths, look at the furore about the official anti-sexual-harassment posters that have appeared at public swimming pools in Cologne, Germany, as reported by europeanconservative.com earlier this month. 

The worst of these posters depicts a mature, red-haired white woman grabbing the buttocks of a black boy with a prosthetic leg, with the command “Stop! Groping is forbidden.” This is such a bizarre distortion of reality, in a country where the majority of sexual assaults recorded at swimming pools are committed by migrants, that the authorities were forced to take the posters down.

Yet this apparently silly incident reveals a profound truth about the outlook of Official Europe: that what is really “forbidden” is telling the truth about uncontrolled mass migration and its impact on our societies. And that any outrageous untruth is acceptable, if it is a “good lie” in a worthy woke cause, that might help to “re-educate” and subdue the public.

It is the same “good lie” mentality that led the UK authorities to deny for decades the truth that mainly Pakistani Muslim rape gangs were preying on thousands of white girls in English towns and cities, and to seek to silence those who told the truth by branding them racists. Even now that the historical facts are undeniable, the dishonest Labour government wants to impose a blasphemy law against “Islamophobia” that could make it a crime to expose the truth about the rape gangs and their abettors, who, in the real world, are still at large and in positions of power.

Official Europe has sought to force-feed the rest of us similar “good lies” on every important issue of our times: from preaching that the irrational imposition of Net Zero policies is good for us, to insisting that women can have a penis. 

It all brings to mind George Orwell’s description, in his classic dystopian novel 1984, of the Big Brother regime’s final victory: “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Meanwhile, in the Brussels bubble, the leaders of Official Europe continue to deny the truth about the damage that their enforced policies on everything from migration and green energy to gender ideology and the Ukraine war have done to the lives of millions of citizens of EU member states. 

Last week, ‘Queen’ Ursula von der Leyen, unelected president of the European Commission, faced a rare vote of confidence in the European Parliament proposed by the Patriots for Europe group of MEPs. On the eve of the vote, Hungary’s conservative prime minister Viktor Orbán wrote that “Tomorrow, the moment of truth arrives: on one side, the Brusselian imperial elite, on the other, the Patriots and common sense. No dodging, a choice must be made.” 

In the event, the mass of centrist, left, and green MEPs clung together to ensure that their Queen easily survived, choosing to endorse von der Leyen’s lie that her national conservative opponents—and by implication, the millions who vote for them—were “extremists” and “Putin apologists” who should be shunned and silenced.

Von der Leyen might have boasted about her leadership of “European democracy”. But that vote only served to expose the democracy gap between the Brussels elite and the farmers, workers, and many others across Europe who, from the ballot box to the unofficial border patrol, are expressing how they feel about the unrepresentative EU regime. 

The truth is that most people do not want to live in a Europe of “good” lies, where the establishment thinks it can turn reality on its head and tell us to deny the evidence of our eyes and ears. And facing the hard truth can set us free.
