Today is the Feast of St Lawrence, Archdeacon of Rome & Martyr. He is the Patron of cooks, having been roasted to death on a gridiron.
From Aleteia
By Philip Kosloski
Ask God to grant you the same passionate love that gave St. Lawrence the strength to endure a fiery martyrdom.St. Lawrence, deacon and martyr of the Church, is well-known for his fiery death, earning him the patronage of all cooks.
However, we mustn't forget that St. Lawrence became a martyr because of his intense love of God. It was his love of God that gave him the strength to endure such a gruesome death for Christ's sake.
Below is the Collect for his feast day, asking God for that same love.
O Almighty God, Who didst give unto Blessed Lawrence power to be more than conqueror in his fiery torment, grant unto us, we beseech thee, the power to quench the flames of our sinful lusts.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
