German Politician Calls for Slovakia To Be Kicked Out of EU

How DARE the Slovaks vote against the orders of the globalist elite in Brussels?! Don't they understand that the EU nanny state knows what's best for them?

Peter Pellegrini’s election to the presidency has not gone down well in liberal circles.

Politicians from establishment German parties are calling for Slovakia’s EU funds to be frozen, and for the country to be ‘kicked out’ of the European Union after electing Peter Pellegrini as its new president. Pellegrini, a close ally of sovereigntist-nationalist Prime Minister Robert Fico, won Saturday’s presidential election in the Central European nation, defeating Europhile candidate Ivan Korčok.

Fico has harshly criticised EU policy on Ukraine, refuses to send military aid to the country, and is opposed to Ukraine joining NATO, which he believes would result in World War III. Pellegrini, too, has called for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, a message that is at odds with the position of most member states of the EU. Western elites would have preferred Ivan Korčok—who would have urged his country to provide military aid for Ukraine—as the next president of Slovakia.

Expressing his distaste for both Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has maintained a pragmatic relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin despite the war, centre-right CDU politician Norbert Röttgen tweeted: “Pellegrini and Fico openly sympathize with Putin, Orbán is Putin’s Trojan horse in the EU. … Anyone who sides with the aggressor does not belong in the EU.” He went on to say in an interview that Orbán should be “shown the door,” and Slovakia has to decide whether “it wants to follow Orbán or stay in the EU.”

German Green politician Anton Hofreiter struck a similar tone, saying that following Pellegrini’s victory, the freezing of Slovakia’s EU funds should be considered. It is important that Slovakia “receives a clear warning signal from Berlin and Brussels,” he added.

Slovakia has been threatened by rule-of-law procedures and the withholding of EU funds ever since Fico came back to power in October of last year. While Eurocrats and Western liberal politicians have pointed to rule-of-law violations and the modification of Slovakia’s criminal code as the reason for punishing the country, the real reason seems to be a deviation from EU policies. Robert Fico has criticised pro-migration policies, EU-federalisation attempts, transgenderism, woke culture, sanctions against Russia, and is seen as a close ally of Viktor Orbán.

As the German conservative publication Apollo News noted:

As soon as a country, be it Hungary or this time Slovakia, does not follow the desired course, there is immediate talk of expulsion from the bloc.

The outlet emphasised that the Slovak presidential election was democratic—“a clean election with a democratically legitimate result”—therefore German politicians should respect the will of the people.

However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
