On April 3, 2024, Easter Wednesday, H.E. Mgr Vitus Huonder returned his beautiful soul to God after a short illness, the fatal outcome of which he knew in full lucidity. It was on the feast of Saint Joseph, March 19, that he entered the hospital. And it was on Holy Monday March 25, the day of the Annunciation, that the diagnosis was made. From then on, Bishop Huonder showed himself to be perfectly docile to the ways of Providence, constantly offering his sufferings for the Holy Church. He also showed constant gratitude towards the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius souls and in an admirable example of prayer and love of the sanctuary.
We recommend the rest of his soul to your constant prayers so that he may reach eternal bliss as soon as possible. According to his own desire, expressed several times, Mgr Vitus Huonder will be buried in the seminary of Écône, “near the bishop who suffered so much for the Church”, he specified.
