The Great Yuan Empire was a state of the Mongol Empire that existed from 1271 to 1368. Founded by Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, the Mongol conquest represented the first time in history all of China had been conquered by a foreign power. Emperors went back and forth between those who ruled more in keeping with the Chinese system and those who ruled in traditional Mongol nomad fashion. When Mongol rule finally fell it was replaced by the Ming dynasty, the last native Han dynasty to rule China.
