Stunning! Priest Rescues Beautiful Pyx From Being Destroyed

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, "The word pyx  was formerly applied in a wide and general sense to all vessels used to contain the Blessed Eucharist," including these:

Dominican priest Fr. Patrick Hyde decided to restore a usable communion pyx, instead of destroying it with other old religious items.

Often priests will be given old religious articles, Bibles or sacramentals to be destroyed. These items need to be either buried or burned, due to their blessing.

However, sometimes there are some hidden “gems” that can be restored, instead of being buried underground.

Such was the case with an old communion pyx entrusted to Fr. Patrick Hyde, OP.

He posted on X the work he did to rescue a beautiful pyx that still had some life left in it.
What is a pyx?

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “The word pyx (Lat., pyxis, which transliterates the Greek, pyxis, box-wood receptacle, from pyxos, box-tree) was formerly applied in a wide and general sense to all vessels used to contain the Blessed Eucharist.“

Eventually the pyx became associated chiefly with the small usually golden receptacle that is used to carry the consecrated hosts to the sick or homebound.

The next time you rummage through old religious articles, you might have something that can still be used with a little elbow grease!

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
