Happy Australia Day!

The First Fleet arriving in Botany Bay, 1788

Happy Australia Day to all my Aussie friends! God save His Majesty Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King of Australia and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth and God Bless Australia!!! Advance Australia Fair!

Keep the Blue Ensign flying!

On this day in 1788, the 11 ships of the First Fleet assembled in Sydney Cove.

Governor Phillip and the official party raised the flag and drank a toast to the King and the colony's success.

An Aussie friend of mine wrote about the day:

My great great great great great grandfather Thomas Acres was aboard one of those ships the Charlotte.

This day 228 years ago today the presence of our family began in Australia.

The Charlotte, named for Queen Charlotte, the beloved consort of HM King George III, was a merchant ship built on the River Thames in 1784 and chartered in 1786 to carry convicts as part of the First Fleet to New South Wales, so my friend's great great great great great grandfather was one of the many convicts who founded Australia and began building it into the great nation it is today.
