The Life of King Louis XIV - Part 2 - Louis Takes Power


At the age of sixteen, Louis XIV was crowned, but it was not until after Mazarin's death in 1661 that Louis took control of France himself.Through wars with foreign powers, notably Spain and the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands, Louis XIV managed to shift France's northern and southern borders into German, Dutch and Spanish territory. Due to the many wars that Louis fought, the French state almost went bankrupt.
