Louis XIV of France, known as Louis the Great and as the Sun King was a member of the royal house of Bourbon. He was king of France and Navarre from 1643 until his death.
Louis was the son of Louis XIII of France and Anne of Austria. After his father's untimely death, he became king at the age of four. Cardinal Jules Mazarin led French politics during Louis's minority.
