KangXi was the third Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, the second to rule all of China and is widely considered one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. He came to the throne in 1661 succeeding Emperor Shunzhi and brought Formosa under Manchu rule and blocked Russian expansion in northeast Asia. He mediated a peace between the Nguyen and Trinh families in Vietnam, defeated Ming loyalists in the south and brought Mongolia into the Banner system. He dealt with an invasion of Tibet and was tolerant of Christianity until the Rites Controversy caused relations to cool. Great advances in art, culture and the national infrastructure were made during his reign, the longest in Chinese history and he was known for his intelligence and support for literacy and Confucianism. He died in 1722 at the age of 68 after 61 years and 305 days on the Dragon Throne.

The musings and meandering thoughts of a crotchety old man as he observes life in the world and in a small, rural town in South East Nebraska. My Pledge-Nulla dies sine linea-Not a day with out a line.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
