Madame de Maintenon - First Mistress, Then Wife


Madame de Maintenon was Louis XIV's last mistress, and secret wife. Biography of Madame de Maintenon was born Françoise d'Aubigné , baptized on November 28, 1635 in Niort. She was the secretly appointed governess of the natural children of Louis XIV (1638–1715), King of France and Navarre, and of his mistress Madame de Montespan, she secretly became the king's wife after the death of Queen Marie-Thérèse in 1683. She died on April 15, 1719 at the Royal House of Saint-Louis in Saint-Cyr.
