Two Bishops - Two Views of Their Roles?

The Bishop of Wichita KS has just issued a much-needed Pastoral Letter, entitled  On Sacred Music: Let Us Sing with the Lord, urging his Parishes to use music appropriate for the Mass instead of the 'music' many Parishes use today. I regret that he didn't use his Episcopal authority to order such a change rather than 'urging' it, but that's not the point of this post.

The salutation in his Pastoral is 'Dear Priests, Pastoral Musicians, and Lay Faithful', and he closes with 'Humbly Yours in Christ, +The Most Rev. Carl A. Kemme, Bishop of Wichita'.

Now, let us compare Bishop Kemme's Letter to one of the Pastorals recently issued by the beleaguered Bishop of Tyler TX. The good Bishop opens his Letter with 'My Dear Sons and Daughters in Christ', and he closes with 'Remaining your humble father and servant, Most Reverend Joseph E. Strickland, Bishop of Tyler, Texas'.

Am I the only one who sees a radical difference in the way these two Successors of the Apostles see their role?

To me. Bishop Kemme's style comes across as being that of the CEO of a company making a suggestion to his managers and employees. On the other hand, Bishop Strickland's Letter symbolises, in my mind at least, that of a shepherd, a loving father. There is a reason Bishops used to be commonly referred to as our Fathers in God. I'm not sure that would apply to many Bishops in this day and age.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
