GOP Congressman: Professing Faith in Jesus is Bigotry

'And these are the guys who are supposedly on our side in the religious freedom debate.' His religion obviously trumps any commitment to normal conservative values.

Yikes. And these are the guys who are supposedly on our side in the religious freedom debate?

Todd Starnes reports:

Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) is facing fierce backlash after he called out a woman on Twitter for her message about the Christian faith.

“There’s no hope for any of us outside of having faith in Jesus Christ alone,” Lizzie Marbach wrote.

In response, the Jewish Republican lawmaker posted a scathing reply. “This is one of the most bigoted tweets I have ever seen,” he wrote. “Delete it, Lizzie.”

“Religious freedom in the United States applies to every religion,” he continued. “You have gone too far.”

Even Rep. Ilhan Omar said the congressman had crossed the line.

“No! “Stating the core beliefs or principles of your faith isn’t bigoted as Lizzie did, its religious freedom and no one should be scolded for that. It’s also wrong to speak about religious freedom while simultaneously harassing people who freely express their beliefs,” she said.

Not only does the congressman believe that professing faith in Jesus Christ is bigoted, but he also seems to believe that Christians should be silenced in the public marketplace.

The congressman later apologized.

“I posted something earlier that conveyed a message I did not intend. I will not try to hide my mistake or run from it. I sincerely apologize to Lizzie and to everyone who read my post,” he wrote.

Ugh.

He apologized so maybe the dude was just having a bad day but something tells me that there’s no way her would’ve gone after any other religion like he did with Christianity. Somehow Christians professing that Jesus is THE way is bigoted and evil. I’m so tired of that.

In our culture today, Christians are portrayed as evil or at least as hypocrites. On television and in movies, just about the only time you hear someone quoting the Bible is when they’re about to kill a bunch of people. Or they’ll show the guy coming out of his church only to come home to a bunch of teenagers tied to his furnace in the basement.

Jesus is our only hope. You can believe otherwise but that doesn’t impede on my ability to express my faith.

Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
