Catholic-Hierarchy.Org, an Invaluable Resource

I'm sure most of my readers are familiar with Catholic-Hierarchy.Org. If you're not, you should be. It is an online database of bishops and dioceses of all the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Catholic Churches in the world. The website is not officially sanctioned by the Church. It is run as a private project by David M. Cheney in Kansas City, MO.

Despite not being officially sanctioned or approved by any church authority, the website is cited as a reference by Vatican Radio, the official broadcasting service of the Vatican, as well as by numerous Catholic dioceses around the world, academic institutions, libraries, newspapers (both mainstream and Catholic), and in published works. Vaticanologist Sandro Magister lists it as a recommended site on Catholicism. It is also used as a reference by other church writers including John L. Allen, Jr., of Crux,, canon lawyer Edward N. Peters, and Rocco Palmo. The Zenit News Agency states that the webpage provides a "silent, unique service to the Church".

And, I have just discovered that Mr Cheney also maintains a blog where he announces updates that will be appearing on the website. It is Catholic-Hierarchy News.

If you're the letter writing sort, the site has chancery mailing addresses for almost all the Dioceses and telephone numbers where available. I suggest bookmarking the main site and this page, Addressing Clergy, from FishEaters.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
