Unlike Catholic laity and most members of the media, Catholic clergy, particularly bishops, are aware of the sexual orientation, and often behavior, of fellow bishops and priests. This was true in the case of ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick even though the pope and most U.S. prelates denied having knowledge of “Uncle Ted’s’ proclivity for seminarians and young priests. Like McCarrick, most homosexual prelates, priests, and seminarians “live in the closet,” and many fear being outed or caught like “Grindr Msgr.” Jeffrey Burrill.
As one reads countless articles in both the secular and Catholic media about reactions to Fiducia Supplicans that allows for the blessing of same sex couples, it appears to some that homosexual clerics, particularly in Europe and North America, are attempting to change traditional Church teachings on homosexuality to conform to their lifestyles. Many heterosexually oriented Catholic clergy, particularly in Africa and Asia, view this attempt as heretical insofar as it advocates beliefs contrary to orthodox religious teachings grounded in both Sacred Scripture and Tradition.
The number of gay Catholic clergy has increased significantly over the past 50 years, particularly in Europe and North America. Many of these men were groomed and introduced to gay sexual behavior in seminaries during their period of psycho-sexual development. Others entered the seminary later in life as homosexuals who were accepted by closeted homosexual bishops and vocation directors. With the closure of most high school seminaries, almost all candidates for the priesthood today are aware of their particular sexual orientation when they apply for acceptance into a particular diocese or religious order. Ordinarily, straight Catholic clergy either attended seminaries where homosexual behavior resulted in one being dismissed, or they developed a heterosexual orientation before they entered the seminary which prevented them from being groomed by homosexual faculty members or other seminarians.
What is common about Catholic bishops, priests, and seminarians who are being canceled today either by Pope Francis, a bishop, or seminary officials, is that they, unlike their closeted homosexual superiors, are heterosexuals who refuse to remain silent about clerical sexual predation and homosexual misconduct in the Church. Bishops like Joseph Strickland and Daniel Fernández Torres; priests like Paul Kalchik, Mark White, Matt Cohen, and Michael Briese; seminarians like Anthony Gorgia, Karl Discher, Timothy Passow, Wieslaw Walawender, Stephen Parisi, and so many others are all heterosexuals unlike those who dismissed them who are thought by fellow clergy to be homosexuals. What is happening in these cases involves outright discrimination based on one’s heterosexual orientation.
The Buffalo Diocese headed by Bishop Michael Fisher, a protege of Cardinal Donald Wuerl and ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, has witnessed the closure of many churches, three of which have been converted into mosques. Interestingly, what is being taught by imams in these converted places of worship is often in line with traditional Catholic teachings on moral issues like homosexuality and abortion.
The Islamic perspective on homosexuality is consistent with Judaic and Biblical teachings. From the Islamic perspective, homosexuality is a grievous sin and anyone who commits it is considered a disobedient servant to Allah. According to the Australian National Imams Council, “This [belief] is clearly stated in the three main sources of the Shariah: The Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of all scholars, which extends from the time of the Prophet till today.”
While there is no comparable authority figure in Islam like the pope, there is consensus among ayatollahs that abortion is allowed only when it is medically proven that the life of a mother is in danger. Insofar as gays, lesbians, and transgenders generally believe that “LGBT rights and abortion rights are inseparable,” is it not ironic that some Catholics might feel more at home in a mosque where the imam espouses traditional Catholic morality on topics like abortion and homosexuality, rather than attending a Catholic Church where homosexual priests are blessing gay and lesbian couples and distributing holy communion to pro-abortion politicians?
One may wonder how the acceptance of homosexual relationships and a willingness to administer holy communion to pro-abortion politicians on the part of pro-LGBTQ prelates like Cardinals Gregory, Cupich, McElroy, and others might impact Catholic birth rates. It is no wonder that Muslim birth rates are higher than the birth rates of Catholics in Europe and North America where gay clergy are often mute on addressing the evils of homosexual behavior and abortion. While Muslim women globally have an average of 3.1 babies, the fertility rate in the United States is 1.6 births per woman which is below the replacement fertility rate of 2.1 for developed countries. In African countries where bishops and priests are heterosexuals and reject Fiducia Supplicans, their birth rates are even greater than in most Muslim countries.
Is it merely a coincidence that thousands of Catholic churches have closed; that the number of Catholics and Catholic clergy have dropped; and that countless churches have been converted into mosques in Europe and North America where every cardinal appointed by Pope Francis is thought to be homosexually oriented? The proliferation of former churches converted into mosques reflects the fact that there are now more practicing Muslims than practicing Christians in many parts of Europe which some people conspiratorially are referring to as “Eurabia.” Owing to the realization of where on Earth the Catholic faith is growing and where it is dying, might the next papal conclave decide not only if the next pope will be a heterosexual or a homosexual, but also if a hundred years from now St. Peter’s Basilica will still be a church or a mosque?
