The 890’s – storms are brewing in Valhalla. It's the final years of the reign of Alfred the Great. After a period of relative tranquility, major Viking attacks resume in England. King Alfred’s extensive military reforms are put to the test as three large Viking armies simultaneously invade the territories of Wales, Mercia and Wessex. Hastein replaces Guthrum as Alfred's chief opponent during this period. Athelred of Mercia and Alfred's son Edward the Elder play key roles during these campaigns.
