First Holy Communion Sunday

Last night six children of our Parish made their First Confessions. This morning at the 10.00 Mass the made their First Holy Communions. I think the Church was the fullest I've ever seen, but of course relatives from other Parishes had come for the happy occasion. Father made the Mass as 'High' as we can get in our little Parish, with chanted prayers and incense.

There were three boys and three girls, the boys looking uncomfortable in their dress shirts and ties, and the girls looking radiant in their white 'brides' dresses' and veils.

The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus turned out in full uniform, chapeaux and swords included. to form an honour guard for the children as they processed in preceding the Ministers of the Altar, and to salute Our Blessed Lord as the Miracle of Transubstantiation took place at the Words of Institution.

After Mass, the children stood with Father at the door of the Church to receive the congratulations of the Parishioners. Then we adjourned to St Ludmila's Hall in the basement for a reception for the children.

I was reminded of a wedding reception. When we were married, we had a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, but I bought my wife a book called The Chocolate Lovers Handbook'. Included in the advice to chocolate lovers was, 'Avoid wedding receptions like the plague! They're notorious for white cake with white icing!'

Yep! We had white cake with white icing, but it was still a great day for the children and for St Wenceslaus' Parish.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
