Notre Dame identifies as Catholic the same way Bruce Jenner identifies as a woman. In reality, it ceased being Catholic when Hesburgh signed the Land O'Lakes Statement, which he had helped write.

The notoriously pro-LGBT Martin should not be delivering a lecture at a university which identifies itself as Catholic.

The notorious pro-LGBT priest Rev. James Martin, S.J., has been invited to deliver the annual Rev. Bernie Clark, C.S.C., Lecture in Catholic Social Tradition at the University of Notre Dame.

Fr. Martin has developed a reputation as a leading of opponent of teaching on sexual morality in general, and homosexuality in particular. His rejection of Catholic teaching is scandalous and risks leading Catholics into practices which are physically, psychologically, and spiritually harmful.

For this reason, he should not be delivering a lecture on Catholic Social Tradition at a university which identifies itself as Catholic, and to which parents send their children expecting a Catholic formation.

Fr. Martin’s dissent from Catholic teaching on homosexuality is extensive and ongoing. Next month he will be leading an “LGBTQ Catholic history” pilgrimage in New York City.

The September 25-27 pilgrimage will seek “to bring together LGBTQ Catholics, allies and those who minister to them both in New York City and abroad” by praying at “important LGBTQ sites.” These “LGBTQ sites” include stops at the AIDS Memorial Park and the Stonewall National Monument as well as services and fellowship at churches which have an active “LGBTQ ministry.”

“New York is an historic site for LGBTQ Catholics and LGBTQ people in general and so we’re happy to have our second pilgrimage – following in the footsteps of our pilgrimage to Rome last year – where we will be able to share the historic and spiritual riches of the place Outreach calls home,” Martin told Outreach.

Last month, Martin called for the ordination of homosexual priests. Addressing the question he said, “Based on my experience with many holy and healthy gay priests over the past 40 years,” celibate gay men should be ordained.

Earlier this year he expressed his support for a Vatican Study Group report which signaled that a faction in the Vatican may be inching toward full acceptance of homosexual “relationships.”

Martin said the report marks “an historic step forward” because it portrays homosexual “relationships” in a positive light.

He declared that the Church is “finally … listening to LGBTQ Catholics,” who maintain that they can be in full communion with the Catholic Church while participating in sexual and romantic relationships that Church teaching has long condemned as “grave depravity” and stated that “under no circumstances can they be approved.”
