A Martyr’s Last Wish — To Help Cancer Patients

Truly a Martyr! Offered safe passage, the Beatus instead asked for a colonoscope, so her hospital could spot colon cancers early enough to treat them.

From Aleteia

By Patricia Navas González

As Algeria descended into civil war, the Spanish government offered Sister Esther a safe way out. Her surprising response revealed a profound love.

Esther Paniagua Alonso was 45 years old when she was gunned down alongside her fellow Augustinian sister, Caridad Álvarez, on October 23, 1994. They were killed near their home in Bab El Oued, a neighborhood in the city of Algiers that Pope Leo XIV visited last Monday in Algeria. For Leo it was a visit to his sisters in their shared Augustinian spirituality.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
