Karol Józef Wojtyła (later Pope John Paul II) ordained priests in Hungary AGAINST PAPAL COMMAND.
Josyf Cardinal Slipyj consecrated bishops WITHOUT PAPAL MANDATE.
St. Athanasius consecrated bishops on his own.
Why? For the good of souls during a state of emergency.
