Among their numbers were hundreds of ‘professional paupers’ who would use elaborate methods to garner sympathy and deceive the unsuspecting Medievals into donating their hard-earned coins. Let’s travel back in time to the Middle Ages, where we meet Mendicants, Klenkners and Clapper Dudgeons.
